Cabinet Project

The first furniture I owned in Berlin was an old edition IKEA cabinet, it was a gift but just not my style.
Here is what happened to it as soon as i came to Leopoldstraße.

This is how it looked when I got it.

*Cupboard                                    *Paint
*Rectangular fish-tank                   *Color electrical tape

Now the cabinet has a display area, there are some micro-worlds I made.

Late winter snow

This winter was not that cold until February when we had some snow, that only lasted one or two weeks. The  temperature was -10 to -17 degrees for ten days straight two weeks ago and the heating system in this building is so bad that having it to the max was no enough. Our windows were frozen with 3cm of ice for six days and the temperature in our bathroom got to 8 degrees in the worst day.

Es lebe Berlin

The BVG was on Strike this last Saturday and it was horrible.
This man was having a hard time taking the news when he got to the station.

Broken windows

Looks like someone got into a fight in the front buildings staircase, I don't know the real story behind but Im guessing is gonna stay like that for a long time, luckily the winter is almost over. There is also a broken window on the other staircase and it has been like that for more than six months, I know that one was because of an argument.
The view is from the bathroom window across the yard.

Eingang

The main door to the building is sometimes broken by people kicking it, which is bad because this gives sometimes room for outsiders to make a mess in the inner yard. This last week I needed to bring something to the basement and as I tried to open the door, the fame came off the wall and the hole thing fell inwards. It came unexpectedly but not as a surprise, the walls of this place are made out of dirt so its impossible to hang something from them, everything is falling apart in the building.

After taking a closer look to the frame and what was left of the wall, it look like it may been broken down by someone. We had a dual-birthday celebration yesterday and most of us, neighbors form the back building, had a nice time drinking some beers and complaining about the state of this ruin we live in.

Luz

When I got this  apartment, a little bit over a year ago, I had no chairs no tables and no Light. Where I come from when you rent a flat you have ceiling sockets already installed, for my surprise this place had none and I had no light after 18:00hrs.

I had made a small sketch of a lamp shade before moving so I decide to make it my first house project.
For the design I was inspired by a very nice exclusive shopping center, Quartier 206

Around the corner

Our flat is just around the corner form the S-bahn station Nöldnerplatz which is nice.
For a non native German speaker, this is not an easy to pronounce word.

But to be honest around this area you only get to see very ugly buildings. Here is a picture of a very old grocery shop  that actually looks cool.

This blog is dedicated to our apartment in Leopoldstr. 26  Berlin
Its a very old building, with a lot of problems and we will try to make a nice place out of it.
We will be posting about interior design and lifestyle.

The building is on the east of  Berlin and we think it is from the 1930s because of the architecture "style" and some evidence in the basement( and obscure and forgoten place).
